Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
We’ve got something for every budget — from mini keepsakes to statement pieces. Each item is clearly priced, so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying before you start. We are unable to list all prices as these may change due to stock and supply. There’s a £5 studio fee to add on per painter, which covers your session time, use of paints, brushes, and all the creative extras.
If you would like specific prices, please come in and have a look around before you book, or please give us a call or send us an email contact@thepotterycove.co.uk
When are you open?
We are open Tuesday (10-3), Wednesday (10-4), Thursday (10-4), Friday (10-5) and Saturday (10-4). We will be looking to offering evening adult only sessions soon. Keep an eye out on social media and the website for changes to opening times in school holidays and the run up to seasonal times of the year.
Do I need to book?
Bookings are not essential but we do strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid being disappointed, especially during weekends and school holidays. A £20 booking fee per table is required to secure your spot. This fee will be taken off your total bill on the day of your booking. For groups of four or more, booking is essential so we can prepare your space and ensure a smooth experience.
Please book a seat for every person who is coming to the studio (including supervising adults) to help us manage studio capacity. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. As we are a small studio, please keep non painters to a minimum so we can accommodate as many creative guests as possible. Please inform us when making the booking, how many painters/non painters will be attending.
How long is my booking?
Each booking is for up to 2hours. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes early for your booking time. If you have not finished your piece within your booking and we are unable to extend your time due to other bookings, we can arrange for you to come back at a mutually convenient time. If we are not busy, you can stay and finish your creation.
When do I get my pottery back?
We aim to have your pottery ready to collect 7-10 days after your visit to the studio, however, during busier times this may take longer. We will send you a text/email to the booking holder when it is ready.
What if my pottery is damaged?
While we take great care with every piece, the kiln process can occasionally lead to damage. If your item is affected, we’ll either offer a full refund or invite you back to recreate it — your choice.
Please note: minor imperfections may appear during glazing and firing. These won’t affect the integrity of your piece and are part of what makes handmade pottery so special. A flawless factory finish isn’t guaranteed — but that’s the beauty of it.
Where are you based?
You can find us at 14 Moorgate, Ormskirk, L30 4RY. We are in the centre of Ormskirk, right next to the car park by M&S. Our entrance is opposite the Indoor Food Market.
Do you do adult only sessions?
Not yet, but we do plan do start these as soon as we can. Please keep an eye on our website or social media for updates.
Do you have baby changing facilities?
Yes we have baby changing facilities and an accessible toilet in our studio.

How it works
You’ll choose from a wide range of pottery pieces, including kitchen favourites like plates, bowls and mugs, as well as figurines and decorative keepsakes. Then, pick your colours from our rainbow of underglazes at the Paint Bar and let your creativity take over.
We’ll guide you through how to use the paints, and we’ve got stamps and stencils to help bring your ideas to life. You don’t need to be an artist to create something amazing — just come as you are and enjoy the process.
We’ve made the whole experience of pottery painting easy and relaxed. So whether you’re a beginner, experienced or just need a refresher, here’s a quick summary of how it works:
1. Choose Your Pottery
Check out our range of blank pottery — you can choose from classic mugs and plates to larger pieces and some smaller fun figurines. Each piece is priced individually, so you know what you’re paying before you start.
2. Hints and Tips
Once you have your piece at your table, one of our team will come over and talk you through how to get the best finish for your pottery. We’ll be able to guide you with pottery painting techniques and how to use any additional stamps/stencils.
3. Paint your Piece
Pick your colours, grab your brush, and let your imagination lead the way.
4. Enjoy the experience of pottery painting
This is your time to switch off, slow down, and savour the moment. Whether you’re painting with friends, family, or flying solo, The Pottery Cove is all about making memories together. Soak up the creative atmosphere, share a laugh, and let your imagination run wild — it’s not just about the pottery, it’s about the joy of being present.
5. We take over
You leave your masterpieces with us and we’ll do the rest.
What happens after I’ve finished?
You leave your painted pottery with us, and we’ll take care of everything to get it ready for you to take home.
- We will let the underglaze you have painted on dry thoroughly.
- We will apply a transparent glaze to your piece (this is what makes it all shiny) and let it dry.
- We will fire the kiln up and carry out the final phase of the process which is firing your pottery. This process brings your creation to life and the true colours come out.
- Your pottery creations will be available for collection 7-10 days after you visit the studio. (This may vary during busy periods. However, if you need your piece by a certain date, please let us know and we will try to accommodate) We will send you a text/email when it is ready to collect.
How Pricing Works
Our pottery pieces are all priced individually, so you can choose exactly what fits your style and budget.
We charge a £5 studio fee per painter to cover your paints, tools, and the kiln firing. This covers each painter for 2 pieces of pottery within your booked time.
A £20 table deposit is taken when you book, and it comes straight off your final total when you visit us to paint.
Session Times
Each booking is for up to 2 hours long with starting times every 15 minutes during opening times, (last session 2 hours before closing time on the day.)
If there’s space available after your session, you’re very welcome to stay a little longer and keep creating!
